Generally, most people would do their part to help rescue our planet if it were within their control to do so. Especially since money is harder to come by. Virtually every medium we are exposed to on a regular basis reminds us of the importance of going green. TV, internet, radio and newspapers are all delivering the same message…Money short? Think green. Why not implement ways to go green, especially when our collective efforts can help save energy while also improving our cash flow?
Believe it or not some people are still scratching their heads trying to figure out ways to go green. It’s easy. Start by making small changes in our homes. Homes offers many opportunities for us to conserve energy. However, we can also practice going green while on vacation, at the mall, or even at the office.

If going green means to avoid wasting energy, then wouldn’t it be reasonable to make certain our homes are properly insulated? Heat tends to leak out in the winter causing us to try harder to stay warm. We turn the thermostat up which results in a much higher heating bill. Then in the summer, we find ourselves trying to get rid of the heat, so we turn down the thermostat on the air conditioner. Of course turning down the central air doesn’t make our utility bills go down, as well. This whole never-ending cycle makes the gas and electric companies content, while causing the green to disappear from our wallets.
We can also prevent wasting energy by checking our doors and windows air escaping. Heat leaking out contributes to higher gas and electric bills and it wastes cash. We all work too hard to just let our money escape through the doors and windows. There is a quick and easy mend to prevent this and it’s something most of us can do without hiring a contractor.
Check to see if faucets are leaking. This may not seem like much, but over time the amount of water that’s wasted is huge. It could amount up to 140 gallons per week. As parents, we educate our kids not to be wasteful, let’s make sure we practice what we preach.
The majority of us don’t ever think about our hot water pipes, yet another way to go green and save cash would be to insulate them. We can also do our part by purchasing energy saving products for our bathrooms. Just think how cost effective it would be, if everyone used toilets that only allowed a minimal amount of water to pass through when flushed. Many households across the country flush gallons of water, when it’s just not necessary.
The next time you stop in Home Depot, Lowes, Andersons, or shop online to buy light bulbs, pick up a few of those compact fluorescent ones. These use less energy and have a much longer life expectancy. In fact, fluorescent light bulbs last about 10 times longer than traditional light bulbs.
There are many, many ways to go green and improve our cash flow, without spending a lot of green. Go Green One Small Step At A Time

We often ask ourselves, how can we contribute to the fight against global warming. We’ve all heard the phrase “go green,” but we just don’t have a clear picture as to what it represents. What does go green mean and how can it save us money?
There are several very easy steps we can take to go green. Did you know that keeping your cell phone charger plugged in all of the time eats up energy? How about the tv, ipod, computer and DVD player? You can start making a difference just by unplugging each one of these items when not in use. Or better yet, just plug all of them into a power surge protector and simply turn it off when not using those particular electronics.
Does your family prefer bottled water to tap? If so, then you are part of the huge number of people spending an average of $1,400 on bottled water on an annual basis. The bad part is that only about 5% of those plastic containers get recycled. A great alternative would be to use filtered water instead. A top of the line filter only cost about $100.00. This equates to a huge savings per year.
Going green helps heal the earth, but also saves us money at the same time.
A good example of this would be to read the newspaper online, rather than having it delivered to your home. There’s over 64 million newspapers printed on a daily basis in the United States. Did you know that only about 70% get recycled? Shame on us for wasting all of those precious trees.
Won’t you do your part and make the decision to go green? Just take one small step at a time. It could be something as simple as choosing to decrease the amount of time you drive your vehicle. Consider walking or riding a bicycle, whenever feasible. Not only will you save gas and money, but you won’t be contaminating the air.
When driving can’t be avoided, eliminate warming up your car prior to heading for your destination. Most newer model cars will be fine if you just get in them and go. Try driving 55 miles per hour or less, rather than speeding. Also keep your tires inflated at the recommended as per your guide.
One small step for individuals in the fight against global warming leads to one huge step towards saving our planet.
